Summary :

 

A successful Bi-lingual Barrister and legal academic, with experience in both Common Law and Civil code jurisdictions, Dr Acha Morfaw is well known internationally for her charitable and consultancy work in the areas of Developement and Investment Economics, Law Reform and Human Rights development especially of the woman and child.

B.L. The Nigeria Law School, Lagos;

Member, Nigeria Bar Association, Cameroon Bar Association.

 

Major associative Activities :

 

Former member of Execuctive Bureau and past Conference Chair: International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law;

Co-founder and first Vice-President: Cameroon Association of Female Jurists;

Founder and Secretary General: Réseau International de Cliniques juridiques;

Member: Institut International de Droit d'expression française; Société Internationale de la Défense Sociale; Collège Consultatif, Association pour l'Unification du droit en Afrique; Association of Common Law lawyers.

 

Professional Practice :

 

She practices in Yaounde as legal counsel for mainly international clients. Work includes general corporate and strategic advice, litigation and negotiation. She has held many consultancies with the international agencies such as the World Bank and United Nations, with the government of Canada, the Nertherlands and Great Britain, as well as the Commonwealth and Francophonie.

Since its foundation in 1997, Dr Acha Morfaw has been an active participant in the perstigious Common Wealth Business Forum, but has so far declined for reasons of time, the invitation to join the council.

In October 2001 she was oppointed. Duputy chairman of the National Elections Observatory Cameroon.

 

Other Activities :

 

1992 : Member, Cameronian Delegation of Frontier Commission to Yola Frontier talks with Nigeria

1995 : Retained by the World Bank as one of the International experts tasked with critically reviewing the bank's policies, instruments  and operational practices in Africa;

1996 : Participated , as World Bank expert, at meeting with African Finance Ministers and major donors on capacity Building, Pars;

1998 : Présidente, Atelier sur la corruption, organisé pour marquer le 25e Anniversaire du Barreau du Cameroun;

1999 : Appointed member, National Observatory for the Fight Against Corruption;

2000 : Founding Board member, Cameroon Chapter of Transparency International.
