Members of the National Elections Observatory (NEO) met today with the Secretary General of the Centre Province representing the Governor, S.D.F. Provincial Officials, Divisional Officers and Sub Divisional Officers of the Centre Province.
During this meeting, discussions centered on SDF’s petition forwarded to the Governor of the Centre Province and NEO, dealing with numerous irregularities noted by the SDF during voter registration in the Center Province, especially in the Mefou-Akono, Mefou-Afamba, Mfoundi, Mbam & Inoubou, Haute Sanaga and Lekie Divisions.
The following conclusions were arrived at by the parties :
1) Council Supervisory Commissions should be set up within two weeks in administrative units where they did not exist.
2) Registration documents should consist of the National Identity Card whether computerized or not as well as receipts of computerized ID Cards.
3) University Students that fulfil registration conditions may be registered at their place of residence.
4) The field trips schedules shall be communicated to all the members of the Revision Commission. Henceforth, the latter shall obtain this information from the Office of the Commission.
The Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer is the point of departure of all the Commissions in accordance with the established schedule.
5) Schedules of field trips of Commissions shall be determined by the members of the Commission.
6) Issues relating to means to be put at the disposal of political parties for their smooth running shall be discussed in a future meeting enlarged to all political parties.
7) Given that commissions are presently carrying out revision and not recompilation of lists, numbers can not be assigned to voters on registration, but they shall have access to registers, in order to verify if their names feature on these lists.
8) Complaint registers are open at all Sub Divisional Offices and at District headquarters. All petitions shall be registered and receipts issued.
9) It was agreed that all other issues addressed in the memorandum were as a result of the absence of dialogue and misunderstanding amongst the various parties.
